About the book
Frank hasn't spoken to his wife Maggie for six months.
For weeks they have lived under the same roof, slept in the same bed and eaten at the same table - all without words.
Maggie has plenty of ideas as to why her husband has gone quiet, but it will take another heartbreaking turn of events before Frank finally starts to unravel the secrets that have silenced him.
Is this where their story ends?
Or is it where it begins?
What I thought
Oh this book. This is just my kind of story and I absolutely adored it. Not easy to say too much about the plot, even briefly, because it would spoil it and I would hate to do that for any potential reader.
Frank and Maggie have reached their more mature years, and this is a love story. It's the story of Frank and Maggie. How they met, the early years of their marriage and the turmoil they've gone through during all their years together. At the beginning of the book we meet Maggie, sat at her kitchen table. From what I remember (because a lot happens in this fabulous tale and I can't quite remember the beginning) she is preparing a meal for Frank but she has a plan and she's about to finalise that plan because she doesn't know why Frank hasn't spoken for six months and does she even care any more.
For they both harbour a secret and neither wants to tell the other what that secret is, then something shocking happens and, at least for Frank, it becomes imperative that he must tell Maggie his secret before it's too late.
In the first part we hear from Frank, of how much Maggie has always meant to him and how lucky he has always felt to be a part of her life. He's kept his secret because he thinks when Maggie finds out she will never forgive him but he has to let her know. In the second part we hear Maggie's side and all that she has grown to love about Frank.
It's an incredibly tender but ultimately sad story. They have gone through so much in their life together, its about loyalty, depression, loss, and a lot of heartache. It's a gentle read that takes its time to develop and brings about feelings of great empathy for all the characters involved. A very emotional, perhaps dark read at times, told with pathos. I loved it to bits.
The book is available in all formats from bookshops, Amazon and Kobo
